What To Expect For Donald Trump’s Inauguration Weekend

The best laid plans for Donald Trump‘s inauguration — the pomp and circumstance of the outdoor Capitol swearing in ceremony followed by a parade down Pennsylvania Avenue — have been stymied by Mother Nature.

With the forecast of Arctic blast moving into Washington on Monday, bringing windchills in the teens or even lower, Trump announced earlier today that some of the biggest events will be moved inside.

When Trump and JD Vance take the Oath of Office, that will be in the Capitol Rotunda, witnessed by a far smaller crowd, perhaps only about 1,000. The parade will be moved to Capital One Arena, about two miles away, and Trump has promised that he will join his supporters there after the Capitol Hill ceremonies.

That said, other indoor events on inauguration weekend will go as planned, with a bevy of parties, balls and cocktail receptions planned for Trump’s ardent supporters and allies, as well as lobbying shops of corporations eager to ingratiate themselves with the new administration. (See Coca Cola).

Given Hollywood’s lopsided support for Trump’s rival, Kamala Harris, the entertainment industry’s presence will be smaller than it would have been if a Democrat was about to enter the White House. That said, Carrie Underwood, Lee Greenwood, Kid Rock and The Village People are among the performers scheduled for Trump’s event.

Here’s a rundown of what to expect:

Friday: The Creative Coalition holds a “100 Leader Dinner & Salute to the Military” at the American Legion, with hosts Jeffrey Ross, Diedrich Bader, Iain Armitage, Steven Weber, Yolonda Ross and Sami Gayle.

Snoop Dogg is expected to perform at the first Crypto Ball at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, per Politico.

Saturday: Trump hosts a reception and fireworks at his golf club in Sterling, VA. There also will be a cabinet reception and dinner hosted by Vance. The fundraising event is to be held at the National Gallery of Art, per ArtNews.

Peter Thiel is hosting an event at his home with David Sacks, per The New York Times.

Sunday: Trump attends a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

At 3 p.m. ET, Trump will hold a Make America Great Again Rally at Capital One Arena. Kid Rock, Billy Ray Cyrus, The Village People, Lee Greenwood and the Liberty University’s Praise Choir are scheduled to perform. Speakers are expected to include Jon Voight, Elon Musk, Hulk Hogan, UFC President Dana White, podcasters Charlie Kirk and Megyn Kelly, and Anuel AA, per the AP.

Trump is scheduled to speak in the evening at a candlelight dinner at the National Building Museum.

Spotify and Google also are hosting events, and All-In podcasters David Sacks, Chamath Palihapitiya, David Friedberg and Jason Calacanis are planning a private party at Ned’s Club, per The New York Times.

Monday morning: Trump will attend a service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, across Lafayette Park from the White House.

The president-elect then will go to the White House, where he and Melania Trump will have tea with President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. They will then motorcade to the Capitol.

The swearing in ceremony will include a prelude from The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Combined Choirs and “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, per the AP. The Trump inaugural committee also said that Greenwood and opera singer Christopher Macchio will perform.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) will call to order.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Rev. Franklin Graham will deliver the invocation.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh will administer the oath to Vance.

Underwood will sing “America the Beautiful” accompanied by the Armed Forced Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.

Monday afternoon: At noon, Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the oath to Trump.

The U.S. Naval Glee Club will perform “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Trump will deliver the inaugural address.

The benediction will be delivered by Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman, Imam Husham Al-Husainy of the Karbalaa Islamic Center, Pastor Lorenzo Sewell and the Rev. Fr. Frank Mann, per the AP.

Former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris will then depart the Capitol.

Trump will attend a signing room ceremony, followed by an inaugural luncheon in Statuary Hall. He then will review the troops on the east front of the Capitol.

The parade will take place in Capitol One Arena, where Trump has invited attendees to also watch the swearing in ceremony.

Trump then will head to the Oval Office for a signing ceremony.

Monday evening: Trump is expected to make the rounds and speak at a number of inaugural balls.

Rascal Flatts and Parker McCollum will perform at the Commander in Chief Ball.

Nelly, Jason Aldean at The Village People are scheduled to perform at the Liberty Inaugural Ball, with a surprise musical guest planned.

Gavin DeGraw is scheduled to perform at the Starlight Ball.

Tuesday: Trump will attend a prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral.
