The Wheel of Time returns for its third season March 13, and here’s a big sign that Prime Video is as excited for its arrival as fans are: the streamer just shared the first 11 minutes of the premiere, a sequence which happens to contain the most face-melting fight scene the show has ever engaged in. And yes, we saw that climactic season two battle; this brawl, which involves rival Aes Sedai members and some extremely vicious channeling of the One Power, easily kicks its ass.
You only have a week to behold this sneak peek (Prime Video notes it’ll be live through February 26 at 11:59 p.m. PT), so what are you waiting for?
So much happens in just over 11 minutes: it’s a rainy day in Tar Valon, and atop the White Tower, Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo)—the current Amyrlin Seat, the leader of the magical sisterhood known as the Aes Sedai—looks worried. “It’s time, Mother,” she’s told, and we cut to a similarly worried-looking Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) looking up at the tower from the city below. Lan (Daniel Henney) tries to reassure her, but there’s too much unease in the atmosphere for any reassurances.
We see why when we realize there’s about to be a “Sitting of the Hall,” gathering women from all the various branches of the Aes Sedai—the color-coded Ajahs—and that includes Liandrin (Kate Fleetwood); she’s ostensibly of the Red Ajah, but as we learned in season two, Liandrin and her sinister cheekbones are secretly repping the evil Black Ajah. And while Liandrin is being called on the carpet to answer for all she did in season two, you just know she isn’t going to go quietly. Will it be a reckoning? An exchange of snarky insults? An attempted coup? Or how about all of that… plus a full-on, fully outrageous magic battle?
As you can see by what happens next, the Black Ajah’s grip on the White Tower is far stronger than even Siuan Sanche realized. And not only do we get the One Power being flung around from both sides, we see some powerful objects being stolen for no-doubt nefarious future purposes. The clip ends on a confrontation as Liandrin and her crew are making their getaway—so what happens next?
The Wheel of Time season three kicks off March 13 on Prime Video. The first three episodes will air that first night, with a weekly drop to follow through April 17.
