Cody Rhodes was destined, as many hoped, to be in the main event of WrestleMania to finish his long-awaited story and reign as the next flagship star of WWE. However, recent events seemingly derailed those plans and diverted WWE’s creative plans in a different direction.

While it came as a shock for many when they heard it on this week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown, apparently Cody was already aware of it before he traveled for the show.

According to a report by Fightful Select, The American Nightmare was already aware of WWE’s decision to go with The Rock vs Roman Reigns match at WrestleMania 40, before he arrived on SmackDown.

Moreover, the report also stated that the WWE talent including The Rock were already booked for the upcoming WrestleMania press event in Las Vegas on February 8. However, The Great One’s involvement in the WrestleMania plans was not clear by that time.

“Regarding the timeline of events, we’re told that Cody at least was informed as of Friday that this was the decision, and he didn’t travel to Smackdown without knowing. Talent, including The Rock, had all been booked for the February 8 press conference in Las Vegas by that time, though The Rock’s involvement wasn’t clear.”

Cody Rhodes has received immense support since The Rock was inserted into Mania plans for a dream showdown with his cousin, the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns. With prevalent backlash already in motion towards WWE’s direction, it would be interesting to see how this story unfolds as the road to WrestleMania continues.

Do you think Cody Rhodes should replace The Rock for a match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40? Sound off in the comments!
