TikTok announced plans to shut down the app in the United States as it petitions the Supreme Court to overturn a ban approved by the government. If you were unaware, President Joe Biden signed an act that mandated that the social media platform shut down unless its Chinese parent company ByteDance sold it. ByteDance has not sold the app and is asking the Supreme Court to overturn the decision. If things proceed according to plans, the social media platform confirmed that it would be shutting down on January 19, 2025. According to CBS News, TikTok confirmed the date on Thursday (January 9). Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court to pause the ban until he assumes office. His inauguration will take place on January 20, the day after the ban is supposed to go into effect. While TikTok will not be available to download anymore, you will still be able to access it if you already downloaded the app. However, you will not be able to access future updates.
