As I Was Singing, My Pastor Told Ushers to Send Me Down From The Altar Because of My Skirt – Nollywood actress Damipe Adekoya
Nollywood actress Damipe Adekoya talked candidly about her deeply religious upbringing and recalled an instance in which she was publicly taken from the altar while singing in church.
In an interview with fellow actress Debbie Shokoya on her official YouTube channel,
Adekoya revealed that she was raised in a deeply religious household, where strict Christian values were upheld. Her father was a Reverend, her mother a pastor, and even her elder brother followed the same path. Growing up as a preacher’s child, she spent most of her early years in the church.
Recalling one of her most memorable experiences, Adekoya narrated an incident where she was publicly removed from the altar during a church service.
She explained that on that particular day, she had worn a long bodycon skirt to church. While she was singing on the altar, her pastor noticed her outfit and immediately instructed the ushers to send her down from the altar.
In her words; “I came from a very religious family. I grew up as a preacher’s kid. My father is a Reverend, my mother is a pastor, and even my elder brother is also a pastor. I grew up in the church until I got married. My parents are very religious Christians, and I lived in the church all through my early years. I remember a day after finishing university when I went to church wearing a long bodycon skirt. As I was singing, my pastor, who was my dad at the time, instructed the ushers to send me down from the altar because of the type of skirt I was wearing. Despite that, they still called a meeting to discuss me. This shows how serious and religious the family I come from is.”
