Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana SAN has shared what leaders of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) told leaders of the national assembly when they recently met to resolve the standoff over the demand for a new minimum wage.

In an interview with Sahara reporters TV, Falana said the Labour leaders were asking how the new jeeps the Legislators acquired for about ₦150 million were functioning. He said the Labour leaders were indirectly telling the legislators that while they are asking them to tighten their belts, their bellies are protruding because they feeding fat from the system.

His words: “When members of the leadership of the national assembly summoned the Labour leaders, I was told that it was a very interesting experience. Because the Labour leaders were asking the leaders of the legislative houses how their new jeeps were functioning. $150,000 per piece. They were also asking when are you commencing the constituency projects.”

“Which was a way of saying, whereas you are asking us to tighten our belts, but your bellies are protruding because you are overeating from the system.”
