On Tuesday, January 21, Instagram user @livebitez took to the platform to share apparent livestream footage recorded from the crowd at the inaugural ball. In the video, Nelly is seen taking the stage as a narrator’s voice seemingly shares the rapper’s life story with the crowd.
Furthermore, the narration explained that Nelly was born on a military base in Austin, Texas, and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Additionally, the narration shared that various members of Nelly’s family have served in the armed forces.
“Only in America can you come from the streets of St. Louis to the White House,” the narration stated before Nelly’s performance began.

Ahead Of His Performance At Donald Trump’s Inaugural Ball, He Spoke More About His Decision
Prior to taking the stage, Nelly opened up about his decision again while speaking to ABC News. The rapper reiterated that he believes it’s an “honor” to perform for the president, and he seemingly “never thought” it would be possible.
“It’s not political for me. For me, the political part is over. He won, and growing up, I was taught to respect the office, so Nelly’s here,” he said.
Additionally, Nelly explained why he didn’t back down from the initial criticism he received for his choice.
