More Details Regarding The Commercial Released By Miami Beach

According to NBC News, Miami Beach released the ad campaign on Friday, March 1. In the clip, multiple individuals speak directly to the camera in what initially appears to be a conversation about a breakup.

“Hey, we need to talk,” the commercial begins. “This just isn’t working anymore. And it’s not us, it’s you. We just want different things.”

The individuals go on to share their ideas of a “good time.” These include relaxing on the beach, going to the spa, and restaurant hopping.

“But you just want to get drunk in public and ignore laws,” the commercial continues. “Do you even remember what happened last March?”

The ad then cuts to news coverage from Miami Beach’s spring break in 2023. News headlines pertaining to shootings, liquor store cutoffs, and emergency declarations flash across the screen.

“That was our breaking point, so we’re breaking up with you,” the commercial continues. “And don’t try to apologize and come crawling back. This isn’t safe. So, we’re done.”

To make sure the message hit home, the ad then goes on to list the various restrictions that will be put in place to ensure safety in Miami Beach during this year’s spring break.

According to the outlet, 2024 spring break restrictions will take effect every Thursday to Sunday during the month of March.

Here’s What Happened Last Spring Break In Miami

According to NBC News, the city’s commercial arrives a year after Miami Beach issued a state of emergency following two fatal spring break shootings.

A March 2023 report from the outlet adds that in the first incident, two men were found with gunshot wounds. Furthermore, one succumbed to their injuries. In the second incident, another man was killed while a suspect was taken into custody.

In addition to the deadly shootings, 2023 also marked the third year that Miami Beach issued a state of emergency due to “unruly crowds” participating in “dangerous and illegal conduct,” per NBC News.
