Getting to Know Len Sassaman

Len Sassaman is an American cryptographer from Pennsylvania. In his teen years, he moved to San Francisco, where he became a regular in the cypherpunk community. This was a computer privacy movement that started in the late 1980s. Sassaman later went on to study under David Chaums, who is widely referred to as the godfather of crypto.

After suffering from depression as a teenager, Sassaman died of suicide at the age of 31. A tribute to Sassaman was encoded into Block 138725 of the Bitcoin blockchain. Before his demise, the cyberpunk worked on projects like the Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) software and its update, GNU Privacy Guard.

The SaaS startup Osogato was the brainchild of the cryptographer and his computer scientist wife, Meredith Patterson. The speculation about his connection with Satoshi Nakamoto stems from the proximity between his death and the disappearance of the Bitcoin creator.

Sassaman died on July 3, 2011, while Nakamoto sent his final email to the Bitcoin community on April 13, 2011.

Traders Launch Meme Coins Linked to Len Sassaman

This past week, traders have issued Solana and Ethereum-based LEN tokens. The hype has sent the market capitalization of the altcoins to new levels. An example is the four-month-old LEN token claiming to be the first issued on Solana. This token recorded a price boost, sending its market cap to $1.6 million.

Still exploiting the situation surrounding the Bitcoin creator’s identity, these traders created meme coins around Len Sassaman’s cat Sasha. Noteworthy, Solana and Ethereum-based SASHA token saw its market cap cross $5 million this past week. ODIN, believed to be Sassaman’s first cat, also received some attention.

A few crypto community members believe the meme coin bets on these Sassaman-themed altcoins are likely an underpriced market opportunity. Crypto X user @ariesyuangga stated that if the HBO documentary is eventually released and Sassaman is named Satoshi Nakamoto, then “every crypto mfers and every big media will say/write its name and talk about him.”

The broader crypto ecosystem is just two days from discovering who  HBO will name Satoshi Nakamoto. The debut of the HBO documentary” Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery” is scheduled to air on October 8. Polymarket data shows Sassaman is leading the other listed supposed Satoshi Nakamoto candidates at 41%.

Finny, Back, and Szabo have 3%, 10% and 4% odds respectively.
