Having the wrong name can be one of the worst situations imaginable as it can cause all kinds of problems. Occasionally you will see a wrestler get their names changed and that is the situation again with a promising WWE Superstar. Now we know why the change was made.

This week’s NXT LVL Up saw the TV debut of Tamyra Mensah-Stock, a former Olympic gold medal winner. However, she debuted under the name Tyra Mae Steele rather than her real name. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the name change was made as WWE does not believe that Mensah-Stock is well known enough to have a name fans recognize. Therefore, the name was changed to one they will know. Steele lost her first match to Wren Sinclair.

Opinion: This does make sense as the original name only had so much value. It doesn’t help that there is already a wrestler with the name “Mensah” in NXT so the change does open up some new options. There is every chance that Steele could be a big deal in WWE and having a better name is a good place to start, though she still has a very long way to go.
