The Views Whoopi Goldberg and President Joe Biden have something new in common: Both have become part of the summertime surge in new, generally mild Covid cases, and Goldberg is willing to cut Biden some slack.

Goldberg returned to The View panel Tuesday after being out with Covid since last Thursday. Yesterday, Biden announced that he’d tested positive for Covid and was isolating with mild symptoms.

On The View‘s Hot Topics discussion today, the shows hosts weighed in whether the president will give in to Democratic Party calls to step down and let a younger candidate like Vice President Kamala Harris take on contender Donald Trump.

Biden supporter Joy Behar opened the discussion by saying, “It’s so depressing, the whole thing. I think he’s going to drop out now…When Pelosi gets into this, and Schumer, and Schiff and Jeffries, and they all say it’s time to go…You know, the Covid in a way is like a good way for him to get out. He needs this time to show how strong he is and he’s sick and time is very, very short now” [until the election].

While the other co-hosts Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farrah Griffin and Sara Haines shared their various Biden-Trump strategies, Goldberg, whose recent bout with Covid was apparently her fourth, brought the discussion back to Behar’s point about Covid.

“I’m just getting over Covid – again – and I can barely remember anybody’s name,” she said before jokingly motioning to her cohosts and saying, “I don’t know who they are….there are times when I go for a word and its not there, and I’m just not going to go and decide that’s the problem. If he falls low in this next debate, I’ll consider changing my outlook. And if it’s too late it’s too late.”

When asked by Griffin if that was a risky to wait that long, Goldberg said, “Not to me, because I believe Joe has what it takes to get things done. I believe it.”

Hostin agreed: “He’s gotten stuff done, so why shouldn’t we believe it?”
