Why Bayern are scared of Ancelotti

Three of Ancelotti’s four Champions League victories came after victories over Bayern in previous rounds of the competition.

There is no doubt that Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti will go down in history as one of the most successful managers of all time. The Italian is the only man to have won the Champions League four times as a coach, and the only man to have won a title in all five major European leagues (Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1) . And if there is one opponent who is tired of seeing the former AC Milan tactician, it is Bayern Munich, Madrid’s next opponent in the UCL semi-final.

This statement remains valid even considering that Ancelotti managed the Bavarian club in 2016 and 2017. After replacing Pep Guardiola, the ex-Italy midfielder won the Bundesliga in his only full season in charge of the team, as well as two DFL Super Cups. However, his time in Munich was cut short just weeks into his second season, following a 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League group stage. German media claimed Ancelotti had lost the support of his players, who were reportedly unhappy with the manager’s training sessions as not intense enough.

Carlo Ancelotti’s record at Bayern Munich:

60 matches

156 goals

50 cashed

42 victories

9 draws

9 defeats

2 DFL Super Cups

1 Bundesliga

If Ancelotti’s arrival at the helm of Bayern has not yielded the expected results, the same cannot be said for the matches against his teams over the years, which should give Real Madrid a lot of confidence – as if he needed it – before the 2023/24 Champions League semi-finals. The Italian has faced the Bundesliga giants eight times as manager and has never been beaten, with six wins and two draws.
