The immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Dr George Moghalu, said he dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Labour Party (LP) to enable him to contest, and win next year’s governorship election in Anambra and redefine governance in the state.

Moghalu who defected to the LP on October 1, 2024, after a failed attempt in 2021, to clinch the APC ticket expressed optimism that he would make it on the LP platform and deliver good governance in the state.

Addressing newsmen in his country home in Uruagu Nnewi at the weekend, the LP chieftain said people have lost faith and trust in the system in the state, and promised to change the narrative if given the mandate.

He explained that his defection to LP was done after long consultations with his family members and political associates to achieve his dream of becoming governor.

“The truth is that our people are not happy with the style of governance in the state. There is a total collapse of infrastructure, a total collapse of security and, most importantly, a complete loss of confidence in governance.

“We need to restore public confidence because without the people, politicians cannot be in business,” he said.
