Nigerian singer Chike-Ezekpeazu Osebuka, who is popularly known by his stage name, Chike has addressed the controversy surrounding his N1 million gift to an internet troll who claimed he owed his success to the late singer Mohbad.

Recall the 31-year-old singer gave a troll who mocked him a whooping N1 million after an online argument.

The singer’s action sparked widespread criticism, as many noted that he enabled more trolls to be vocal on social media.

In a recent episode of the ‘Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, Chike revealed that his actions were driven by anger, not a publicity stunt.

“It was not planned. I was just angry,” he said.

Chike further opened up about the hit song ‘Egwu,’ a collaboration with Mohbad released in December 2023, three months after his colleague’s demise.

According to Chike, he initially hesitated to release the song and had considered giving the song away for free to blogs to honour Mohbad’s legacy. However, his management acted otherwise and  released the song.

Chike also revealed that he has more unreleased songs with Mohbad.

He said, “I think the music came out maybe 3 or 4 months after his passing which if I want to talk about it, I was not really on the train of putting out the music. But that one is for management, I was never on the train of putting out the music.”

“My decision earlier was that I had just given it to free blogs and let them just have it so that people can hear the last work of the artiste that I know about before he passed. But there are like four songs.”
