For former French international Marcel Desailly, Kylian Mbappé has every chance of winning the supreme distinction this year.
2024 could well be the year of consecration for Kylian Mbappé. At least that’s the opinion of Marcel Desailly, the former 98 world champion, who is very optimistic about the Paris Saint-Germain striker’s chances of winning the next Ballon d’Or.
According to Desailly, the Ballon d’Or should not escape the French prodigy if two essential conditions are met: a good performance by PSG in the Champions League and a remarkable performance by the French team at Euro 2024 in Germany. “If Paris goes far in the Champions League, and with the Euro, Mbappé can finally win his first Ballon d’Or this season,” declared the former Marseillais.
A royal road?
PSG, after eliminating Barça in a sensational quarter-final return on April 16, finds Borussia Dortmund in the semi-final. A poster which paves the way for a final that some observers are already imagining between the capital club and Real Madrid, who would be victorious over Bayern Munich, the fourth team in this last four.
As for the Euro, Didier Deschamps’ gang is once again considered one of the favorites alongside England, Germany, Spain and Portugal. But regardless of the collective results, Desailly is convinced that Mbappé will be there on an individual level. “No matter how you approach his state of mind, he will be at the expected level”concluded the 93 European champion.
