Lucas Perez will miss the chance to face former club Arsenal in the Champions League despite signing for PSV Eindhoven.
The experienced Spanish striker has joined the Dutch club until the end of the season after having his contract terminated at Deportivo La Coruna for personal reasons.
Perez will not be available to feature against ArsenalSince signing for PSV, the forward has made two appearances for the club, but he won't add to that in the Champions League.
Instead, he will have to watch from the sidelines as the Gunners and PSV battle it out for a place in the last eight of UEFA's premier competition against either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid.
Why can't Perez play against Arsenal?
Perez has only just joined PSV after the club found out Ricardo Pepi was set to be out for a while.
The Spaniard only joined the Dutch side in February, meaning he missed out on inclusion in their Champions League knockout squad.
PSV were involved in the knockout play-off round, so they had to submit their final squad list before Perez joined.
Once that squad list is submitted, there can be no further changes to it, so Perez will play no part in either leg.
Therefore, there will be no reunion for the forward with his former club.
Perez can only play domestic games for PSVCredit: GettyArsenal signed Perez from Deportivo La Coruna for just shy of £20million in the summer of 2016.
It didn't prove to be the most successful move, as the following year, he re-joined the Spanish club on loan for six months.
Then in the summer of 2018, the Gunners sold him for a huge loss to West Ham United.
That transfer across London didn't work out too well for Perez either, lasting just one campaign in east London before heading back to Spain and joining Alaves.

Overall, Perez's record for Arsenal wasn't too bad, playing 21 games, scoring seven times and setting up five further goals.
He just couldn't get consistent game time while in north London.
No doubt he would have loved the opportunity to face his former team, but UEFA rules mean that won't happen.
