This is a case that has caused a lot of ink to flow in recent weeks. But FC Barcelona now seems to be at the end of the tunnel. After numerous financial and legal pirouettes, the Catalan club was finally able to re-register its two players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. The news was made official this Wednesday evening by La Liga and immediately confirmed by Barça. “Good news for FC Barcelona. Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor have been registered for La Liga and are therefore available for selection by coach Hansi Flick, including for the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday at 8 p.m. » explained the club in a press release. But since this announcement, reactions have multiplied to denounce preferential treatment towards FC Barcelona.
After the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against the same Barça, Bilbao player Inaki Williams had already raged against La Liga’s decision. “It seems that the rules are not the same for everyone” he said. This Thursday, the Atlético de Madrid and Las Palmas clubs also took out the sulphate with Colchoneros who notably denounced political interference. “Atlético de Madrid wants to show its deep concern about the situation generated in Spanish football after the resolution adopted this Wednesday by the Superior Sports Council. We consider that this decision endangers the current system, calling into question the rules of the game (…) This government intervention creates a very dangerous precedent, because it opens the door to violations of the rules and the repetition of serious errors of the past . Atlético de Madrid maintains its commitment to rigor and responsible management. Without clear and equal rules for all, there is no fair competition possible.”
Florentino Perez is supported by Laporta
The Las Palmas club, for its part, judged that the economic rules put in place had been flouted. “The resolution issued yesterday by the Superior Sports Council (CSD) surprised us unfavorably and since then at UD Las Palmas we have expressed our absolute disagreement. We consider that this decision represents a serious danger for the integrity of the competition and creates a worrying precedent which could destabilize the foundations of professional football in our country. And if many clubs therefore opposed the registration of Olmo and Pau Victor, this is not the case for great rival Real Madrid. Quite the contrary. Sport reveals that Florentino Perez, unlike the presidents of Sevilla FC, Bilbao or Atlético, was one of the only ones to support Laporta’s maneuvers to register the two players.
The Catalan daily explains that Joan Laporta is today the only ally of the president of Real Madrid regarding his Super League project. It is Laporta who wishes to continue to support Florentino Pérez in this project and not Barça. The Madrid president is also closely following the information on Laporta’s future at the head of Barça and he would like him to still stay at the club to allow him to maintain significant support in his project against UEFA. Real Madrid also expected a positive decision from the CSD concerning the registration of Olmo and Pau Victor and wanted to be discreet about its support for Barça so as not to cause controversy…
