Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is yet to hand a new contract to Conor Gallagher due to two major concerns about the midfielder.

Gallagher once again underlined his worth with two goals in Chelsea’s 3-1 win against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

His performance led Mauricio Pochettino to describe him as ‘priceless’ in his post-match press conference.

The Argentine’s words were not by mistake, as he is believed to be against the club’s plan to cash in on Gallagher.

The midfielder has less than 18 months to run on his deal at the club and given his status as an academy product, Chelsea would make 100% profit by selling Gallagher.

Gallagher, for his part, is keen to stay at Stamford Bridge but Boehly is minded to sell the midfielder.

According to the Daily Mail, that’s down to two key concerns.

Firstly, there are doubts over Gallagher’s long-term suitability to the club.

While Gallagher has been one of Chelsea’s best performers this season, the club are sat in 10th and Boehly questions whether the midfielder would be good enough for a team with ambitions to win the Premier League.

Secondly, the American is reluctant to break the club’s wage structure and will not bow to Gallagher’s demands because his contract is running out.

Gallagher currently earns around £70,000-a-week and he had hoped to nearly triple his salary with his next deal.

However, Chelsea have a rough £150,000-a-week limit for the majority of their squad and they do not view Gallagher in the same bracket as team-mate Reece James, who they broke their structure for.
