'Wicked' Cast Gathers to Celebrate Awards Season Amid Producer's Admission to Wanting Just One Movie with an Intermission

The cast of Wicked is working hard during awards season and they toasted to their success at a Vanity Fair party this week.

Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and more joined Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Radhika Jones for an exclusive cocktail party on Monday night (February 10) at The West Hollywood EDITION in Los Angeles.

Also in attendance were co-stars Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, and Marissa Bode, director Jon M. Chu, and many of the film’s creative team members.

Producer Marc Platt made a surprising admission this week that he was against the plan the split the movie into two parts and that he wanted one long movie with an intermission, just like fellow Best Picture nominee The Brutalist.

“I remember going to the movies as a kid and watching musicals or Lawrence of Arabia that had intermissions in it, and that was actually my dream for Wicked, that we could do it with intermission,” Marc said at a recent event (via THR). “That was one battle I lost.”

Marc, who also produced the Broadway show, explained the reason for expanding the story. He said, “When we did the stage musical, we did cut out a lot of things that we wanted to elaborate upon. What was Elphaba like as a child? What did she think of the Wizard? What was her heart’s desire? Those kinds of things.”

Ariana has addressed rumors of a secret romance with Cynthia.
