Warner Bros. Discovery has unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming theatrical release of Wicked, the Wizard of Oz-inspired musical starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

Based on the wildly successful Broadway show, itself based on the Oz-inspired novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked is a prequel exploring the untold story of how a young witch named Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West. Its story follows the burgeoning friendship between actor Erivo’s Elphaba and Grande’s Glinda. Wicked was first announced in 2019 after being stuck in development limbo for an inordinate amount of time. The musical is being directed by Crazy Rich Asians helmer Jon M. Chu.

In the lead-up to the trailer’s release, Wicked‘s X/Twitter account uploaded posters of its main cast in full costume. Said posters include closer looks at Erivo as Elphaba, Grande as Glinda, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Bronwyn James as ShenShen, Marissa Bode as NessaRose, Ethan Slater as Boq, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Saturday Night Live‘s Bowen Yang as Pfannee, and Game of Thrones alumni Peter Dinklage as a goat professor named Doctor Dillamond.

In July, Warner Bros. moved Wicked‘s release date up a week to avoid contending with Disney’s Moana 2 , which opens November 27. The film will be now released alongside Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II. This strategic release date switcheroo is ingenious on the studio’s part, considering Wicked won’t see a split in moviegoers with Gladiator II thanks to the latter’s lack of glitzy musical numbers.

Wicked opens in theaters on November 22. Wicked Part Two is slated to release November 26, 2025.
