Wigwe University has reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and transformative leadership at its inaugural Founder’s Day Lecture, held recently, in honour of its visionary founder, Dr Herbert Wigwe.
The event paid tribute to the late former Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank and Access Holdings Plc, who tragically passed away last year alongside his wife, Mrs Chizoba Wigwe, and son, Mr Chizi Wigwe.
Distinguished Nigerians, academia, and industry leaders gathered at the lecture to celebrate Wigwe’s legacy and the institution’s mission of becoming a leading force in global education.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof Fabian Ajogwu, urged the institution’s leadership to remain committed to its founding principles.
Ajogwu emphasised that Wigwe University must continue to champion excellence, innovation, and the fearless pursuit of knowledge to shape Africa’s future.
“We expect the University’s leadership to continue to provide visionary guidance in actualizing our mission. We charge the fearless community of Wigwe University to pursue their dreams with courage, emboldened by new learning, STEM advancements, AI development, innovation, and entrepreneurship,” Ajogwu said.
He stressed that the university must remain focused on its vision of becoming a global hub for cutting-edge research, scientific discovery, and entrepreneurial development.
“By fostering a bold and dynamic learning environment, Wigwe University aims to equip students with the skills needed to tackle the challenges of the 21st century,” he added.
It noted that the Founder’s Day Lecture reinforced the institution’s role in redefining higher education in Africa by offering world-class learning opportunities that nurture future leaders and changemakers.
It noted thatWigwe University, which was established as part of Wigwe’s vision to revolutionise education in Nigeria and beyond, continues to push the boundaries of academic excellence.
“With a curriculum that integrates advanced technology, research, and leadership development, the institution remains committed to preparing students for a rapidly evolving global landscape,” it added.
