As Barcelona gear up for an important encounter against Paris Saint-Germain next month, club president Joan Laporta has recently raised the stakes by stating Kylian Mbappe will distort the atmosphere in the dressing room.

Mbappe, who starred in PSG’s win over Real Sociedad in the Round of 16 stage, is likely to be a part of the PSG team that takes on Barcelona in the quarterfinal next month.

Heading into this tie, former Liverpool and PSG midfielder Mohamed Sissoko has refuted Laporta’s recent statement and backed Mbappe to do well against Barcelona.

However, Sissoko also praised Barcelona for performing extraordinarily since the turn of the year.

“Barcelona has improved recently and is playing well, and some of its young players, like Yamal and Pau Cubarsí, have performed at astonishing levels,” Sissoko said (h/t AS).

The former midfielder, though, added that PSG will be the favourites in the two legs that will be played out next month.

Sissoko even believes that Mbappe will be as motivated as ever, especially with the Real Madrid contract on the table.

“PSG are favourites. Mbappé will arrive at the tie motivated because it is his last year with that shirt, and he will do everything possible to win the title,” he added.

Mbappe himself has recently issued a clarification on Aurelien Tchouameni’s comment, noting that the Spanish fans will see him more as PSG take on Barcelona next month.

Tchouameni had earlier stated that Spanish fans would see Mbappe more often in action amid reports of him joining Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Sissoko, meanwhile, has also backed Real Madrid to win the league title, while adding that it is the right time for Mbappe to sign for Los Blancos.
