Last night at the AEW Dynasty pay-per-view, Swerve Strickland made history by becoming the first African-American to hold the AEW World Championship. The Aerial Assassin Will Ospreay recently shared his thoughts on Strickland’s victory.

While speaking on the post-show media scrum, The Aerial Assassin mentioned that he is very proud of Swerve Strickland.

“I mean, I saw Swerve when he came back. I was getting my hand looked at. Saw him come back and I was just so happy for him. Swerve actually, we’ve said this really, we told this story a few times. He’s been around my mum’s a** a few times. I’ve looked after him. We’ve gone to Trampoline Parks in England together. So, I knew Swerve when he was CZW Swerve. So, to… Yeah man, and Dance-off in Germany. Man, there’s been loads of dance-offs that well, you haven’t seen where he might have been involved… But to see how far he has come, from just another Indy-guy… He was… But you could sense there was something special.

Will Ospreay was always supportive of Swerve Strickland

“He had an aura about him that. But dating back, when I would see him in OTT over in Ireland. I saw him there and people would sing along with him. And would feel his energy and feel his vibe. To then, come here in AEW and watch his growth. Even before I was a part of AEW,  I’ve always watched from the sidelines, I’ve always been a supportive guy.

“To see him come in, you just knew, the moment he came in, he was going to be world champion one day. And today he’s shown every bit what an inspiration he is, to be a representation for African American people as a champion. For me, my son is brown as well. And to look at that, I’m sure he’s going to look at what Shane has done and he is going to be inspired by that. This is all about inspiring people man.”
