Will There be a 'Beetlejuice 3'? Tim Burton Addresses Future of the Franchise

Tim Burton opened up about the future of his Beetlejuice franchise ahead of the release of the long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

The first movie in the series premiered back in 1988, and it wasn’t until this year that a sequel came about. Is there any chance that a third movie starring the likes of Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega will follow?

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Tim was asked if he planned to direct any more movies in the series. However, he was not feeling so optimistic.

“Well, if [the same] time frame goes on, I’ll be about 100. So maybe. I doubt it,” he quipped in response. There was a 36-year gap between the first movies.

What made the sequel work for him?

“Well, because the Lydia character (Ryder) interested me,” he said about returning to the characters. “Getting older is where you start thinking about what happens in life. [She] starts as a cool teenager. Relationships… Do you have kids? What are they like? What do you like? How do you change? These are all things that I know and experience. So it felt more right to make this now, rather than back in, like, 1989.”

Beetlejuice star Michael Keaton revealed his two conditions for reprising the titular character.

The movie premieres in theaters on September 6 – watch the trailer!
