Former NXT General Manager William Regal made surprising return to WWE’s developmental brand, NXT, after an absence of nearly two years. However, recent developments suggest that Regal may not be a regular fixture on television programming moving forward.
Corey Brennan of Fightful Select addressed Regal’s return as more of a cameo, stating, “For those who were wondering, as of the February 27th taping, there are no plans to feature William Regal on screen in a full-time role in the near future.”
William Regal is widely regarded as one of the most remarkable British wrestlers of all time. He had a storied career in WWE, both as an in-ring competitor during the mid-1990s and late 2000s, and later transitioning into roles such as General Manager of WWE NXT in 2012. In this capacity, he played a vital role in talent development within the company.
Regal briefly ventured to WWE’s rival promotion, AEW, in March 2022, where he managed the Blackpool Combat Club. However, this tenure was short-lived as he parted ways with AEW in December of the same year.
Following his departure from AEW, Regal re-signed with WWE, but due to contractual obligations with AEW, he had to wait one year before making his return to WWE television programming. This long-awaited return finally occurred recently on NXT.
While Regal’s return to NXT was met with excitement from fans, it seems that his appearances may be sporadic, with no plans for a full-time role on-screen at the moment. Nevertheless, his wealth of experience and expertise will undoubtedly continue to be valuable behind the scenes in WWE’s talent development efforts.
