Wojciech Szczesny is on the verge of joining FC Barcelona, according to reports from Meczyki.pl.

The Polish goalkeeper has reached an agreement with the La Liga club and is expected to finalise the transfer soon.

Szczesny, who announced his retirement in August, has been linked to Barcelona for several days, and sources indicate that the deal is close to completion.

If all goes as planned, the former Polish international will undergo medical tests this Thursday.

In fact, Fabrizio Romano has also given the Here we go seal for the transfer.

Barcelona have offered Szczesny a one-year contract, to fill the gap left by injured goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who is expected to be sidelined for about eight months due to a serious injury.

With this significant injury, Barcelona are allowed to make an emergency transfer and can utilize 80% of Ter Stegen’s salary to secure Szczesny’s services.

It has been reported that the former Arsenal goalkeeper has been offered a salary of €3 million until the end of the season.

Commenting on the possibility of signing for the La Liga leaders just a few minutes ago, the Polish goalkeeper said:

“I respect Barça’s history very much; they are one of the best clubs in the world. I understand the difficult situation that has been generated after the injury of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and I think it would be disrespectful on my part not to consider this option.”

As Szczesny makes his return to the pitch, he will be hoping to contribute to the team’s success in La Liga.

The 34-year-old ex-Juventus man will battle it out with Inaki Pena for the starting spot between the sticks in Ter Stegen’s absence.
