Wolves are set to demand a club record fee for prized asset Pedro Neto this summer, with a host of Premier League clubs interested in the Portuguese winger, according to reports.
Neto enjoyed a fruitful start to the campaign, notching up two goals and nine assists but two substantial hamstring injuries meant he missed 17 Premier League games throughout the season.
The 24-year-old made a brief cameo appearance in Wolves’ last game of the season – a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool – and is expected to attract plenty of interest this summer despite his limited game time in recent months.
Following the big-money departures of Matheus Nunes, Ruben Neves and Nathan Collins last year, Wolves are in no need to raise cash to balance the books but that is not likely to dissuade potential suitors.
Tottenham and Arsenal have previously been linked with the winger, while Manchester City and Newcastle are also said to be weighing up a bid.
According to The Telegraph, that bid will need to be upwards of £60million for the midlands club to consider letting him go.
City paid £53m to sign Nunes from Wolves last summer, meaning a potential deal of £60m would break the club’s record sale.
Despite a poor end to the season, which saw the club win just one of their last ten games, head coach Gary O’Neil insisted that Neto remained ‘committed’ to the club but hinted they were expecting bids for the Portuguese international.
‘Pedro’s really happy at the club and, if nothing happens for him in the summer and there’s no big offers or big clubs coming in for him, he’s more than committed to cracking on and showing everyone how good he is next season in a Wolves shirt,’ he said earlier in the month.
‘I understand the noise because of how good he is and the potential value he has, but there’s none of that from Pedro. He’s just focused on being as good as he can be.’
Neto, meanwhile, is fully focused on trying to secure a place in Roberto Martinez’s Portugal squad for the upcoming European Championship.
‘I hope so. I work for that every day, I already missed two times through injury, but this time I’m available so let’s see [what] the coach will do,’ he told the club’s website.
