Women’s football: A big change made official

This is a big novelty – and it is welcome – which is about to come into force in women’s football. Four months before the creation of the professional league, the presidents of the French women’s D1 and D2 clubs signed an agreement to protect the players “in matters of health, pregnancy and maternity”.

This collective agreement will allow “maintenance of remuneration, without conditions of seniority or waiting day, when a player is on sick leave or on maternity leave”explain Foot Unis, the union of professional clubs, and U2C2F, that of amateur clubs, in a press release published this Friday.

In essence, in the event of work stoppage due to pregnancy, players will be compensated for 90 days with their salary fully paid. Concerning maternity leave, lasting 16 weeks, the clubs will cover the salary up to 15,500 euros monthly, in addition to daily allowances. The total compensation period is nine months.

“These measures were eagerly awaited by the players. They will be able to benefit from it from next season. I am very proud of this progress in building a new status for professional football players”rejoiced Laurent Nicollin, president of Foot Unis and Montpellier.
