EXCLUSIVE: Working Title Television is developing a TV series version of Scott Alexander Howard‘s buzzy debut novel The Other Valley.

Released in the U.S. and Canada this week, The Other Valley is a speculative fiction book set in a town that is physically neighbored by its own future and past. Grieving residents can seek permission to visit a past version of their town on the other side of the mountains — hiking back in time to get one last look at somebody they’ve lost. The novel follows a candidate training to oversee such requests, who accidentally spots two visitors from the future: the grieving parents of the boy she loves.

For Universal International Studios (UIS) division Working Title, TV boss Katy Rozelle will oversee development in partnership with the global scripted team at UIS. Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Rozelle and Scott Alexander Howard will EP. No network is attached as of yet.

Howard is a Canada-based author who was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard, where his work focused on the relationship between memory, emotion, and literature.

Incoming Working Title projects include Lena Dunham rom-com series Too Much, Chris Hemsworth movie Crime 101 and a Frankie Goes to Hollywood biopic. The studio’s TV division is also behind the likes of Everything I Know About Love and We Are Lady Parts.

Howard is represented by Lupo Creative Group on behalf of Roz Foster at the Frances Goldin Literary Agency. The book will launch in the UK on April 18 via Atlantic Books.
