As was the case this time last summer, Sofyan Amrabat is tensely awaiting a call from Manchester United.

Knowing that the club are actively scouring the market for a cut-price midfield addition, Amrabat has put Turkish giants Fenerbache and Galatasaray on hold until he receives confirmation of whether he’ll be returning to Old Trafford, per Corriere dello Sport.

The 27-year-old ‘engine’ spent the full 2023/2024 campaign with United, making 30 appearances in total across all competitions, 17 as a starter. His final – and perhaps most memorable – outing in red culminated with him being crowned an FA Cup champion, having played the full 90 minutes of the Reds’ Wembley triumph.

United have already rejected the chance to sign Amrabat permanently

Yet, INEOS chiefs proceeded to opt against activating Amrabat’s £21.4 million buy clause, meaning he has since returned to parent club Fiorentina and begun preparations for the term ahead.

The Florence outfit are said to be demanding a lesser fee if they part ways with the player – who was previously deemed ‘world-class’ by his national team manager Walid Regragui – before deadline day.
