Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool will all lose out to Xabi Alonso, according to Germany great Lothar Matthaus.

Although former Bayern player Matthaus would love to see Alonso take over as manager of his old team, he believes the Spaniard will turn down many big teams in order to remain at Bayer Leverkusen for at least another season.

Alonso is on the verge of winning the Bundesliga with Leverkusen, ending the decade long dominance of Bayern.

He has been linked with a number of jobs with Liverpool making him the frontrunner to replace the outgoing Jurgen Klopp.

Bayern, who have announced their manager Thomas Tuchel is set to depart the club at the end of the season, are also looking for a new manager and eyeing their former player Alonso.

Matthaus believes the Spaniard will stay for one more season with his current club.

Matthaus said, as quote by The Sun: “His dream may be to one day coach Bayern, Liverpool or Real Madrid. But, in my opinion, he is not done at Leverkusen yet.

“Xabi is not someone who gets carried away by big names, he has celebrated too many successes as a player for that.

“He, in addition, is not going to be guided by the economic aspect. What matters to him is what he has built and who he has built it with.

“He knows where he comes from and what he owes to others. That’s why I don’t think he’s going to sign for another club next season.”

Another club that Alonso played for, Real Madrid, have also been linked with a move for the manager.

He is currently the most in-demand manager in world football right now with three of the biggest clubs vying for his signature.

His stock has gone up in a matter of few months after he managed to take relegation threatened Leverkusen on the verge of winning the Bundesliga title.
