The Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, Abdalfatah Ahmed Khalil Alsatarri, has called on Ghana and international organisations to support the call for a ceasefire as the Israel-Palestine war continues to claim several Palestinian lives.

The Ambassador made the call over the weekend when he joined the Socialist Movement of Ghana and the Ga Adangme Youth in a peaceful protest march in Accra to highlight the plight of the Palestinian people in Gaza.

They march through some principal streets of Accra saw about 160 participants with some carrying placards with inscriptions such as, “Free Palestine now”, “Stop killing the women and children now”, “Hands off Yemen, occupation target, city has been destroyed, the real face of occupation, Gaza bombed and we all Palestine.”

The three-hour walk which started at 10 am at the James Town (Ga Mashie) continued through to the Accra post office to Tudu and Makola market and ended at James Town roundabout.

Speaking to journalists after the walk, the Ambassador described the mass killing and atrocities in Palestine as disturbing.

“Over the past year, more than 42,000 people from the community have been killed, including 15,000 children and 10,000 women, with over 120,000 injured. Seventy-five per cent of housing has been destroyed. Recently, a hospital was bombed, resulting in the death of over 20 women and children, and staff were evacuated. Residents in northern Gaza were ordered to leave their homes, raising concerns about where they can go,” he stated.

A member of the Socialist Movement of Ghana, Najeeb Yaya, who also participated in the protest, cited that the fight for humanity was a fight for all and called on all, irrespective of their religion, to partake in the call for Palestinian freedom.

“This issue is not about Islam; it’s about humanity. We are going to invite churches to join this cause because they are killing Muslims and Christians. They are destroying both churches and mosques, so it’s essential to join hands for a ceasefire,’’ he said.

The president of the Ga Adangme Youth, John Aryee, also pleaded with government to get involved in the protest and not be quite over the suffering of the Palestinian people.
