Having enjoyed a successful 2023/24 season on loan at Girona, Eric Garcia returned to Barcelona in the summer with the hope of establishing himself as a regular in the team.

However, it has been a stop-start campaign for the 23-year-old for the versatile Spaniard, who had been used in defence and midfield before getting injured.

After featuring in nine matches and playing close to 450 minutes, Garcia has been out of action since the end of the last international break, missing four games in a row for Barça in all competitions.

Garcia dealing with ‘pubalgia’

After the ex-Manchester City man missed the matches against Sevilla and Bayern Munich, it was expected he could return against Real Madrid but it was not to be.

In fact, Garcia went on to miss Sunday’s Catalan derby against Espanyol, with Hansi Flick confirming before the game that he would be unavailable until after the international break.

Now, journalist Laia Tudel has brought forth an update on the reason behind Garcia’s absence and a potential return.

As per the reporter, the Spanish international has been sidelined with ‘pubalgia’ and will need to rest until the discomfort goes away completely.

Pubalgia is a chronic groin lesion caused by an imbalance of the adductor and abdominal muscles at the pubis, which leads to an increase in the weakness of the posterior wall of the groin, which in turn leads to deep groin pain.

It is difficult to predict an accurate timeline for Garcia’s return but it is essential for him to be completely rid of the pain in the region before he can think of a comeback.

So, it remains to be seen if the defender makes a return once the international break is over later this month or takes longer.
