Not even the Emmys were going to stop Rob McElhenney from watching his beloved Philadelphia Eagles.

On Monday night, the Wrexham co-owner attended the prestigious award ceremony in Los Angeles with wife Kaitlin Olson.

Unfortunately for the 'It's Always Sunny' star, the 75th Emmy Awards coincided with his hometown Eagles taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL playoffs.

Not wanting to miss a snap, McElhenney posted a picture of himself streaming the pre-game coverage of the Wild Card matchup while inside the ceremony.

"Who schedules the Emmys the same night as the @eagles," he posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Perhaps it was for the best though as Philly crashed out of the playoffs following a blowout 32-9 defeat to Tampa Bay.

The Eagles jumped out to a 10-1 start to the season and looked destined to reach the Super Bowl for the second successive year.

However, their form has fallen off a cliff in recent weeks as they have gone 1-6.

Luckily for Rob his night improved as he was awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program for his hit docuseries, Welcome To Wrexham.

Later on in Monday's ceremony, McElhenney posted a photo himself with the Emmy with the caption, "Worth it I guess Up the town" followed by a Welsh flag emoji and '#gobirds #FlyEaglesFly.'

He also presented an award with his It's Always Sunny cast-mates.

FX docuseries Welcome to Wrexham shares a behind the scenes look at McElhenney and co-owner Ryan Reynolds' stewardship of the historic Welsh club as they climb up the English football pyramid.

Earlier this month, the show won five categories at the 2023 Creative Arts Emmy Awards - Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program, Outstanding Picture Editing for an Unstructured Reality Program, Outstanding Directing for a Reality Program, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Reality Program (Single or Multi-Camera) and Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Program.

Rob and Ryan did not attend the ceremony but filmed an acceptance speech, which they shared via Instagram.

“Wow, an Emmy, what an incredible honour,” McElhenney said. “There are so many people to thank, I have been waiting for this moment for 16 years, so I’ve got a lot to say.”

Reynolds, who was dressed as his Marvel character Deadpool, interrupted and said, “Wow, Mr. Lively couldn’t be here to accept this broken Emmy, so he sent me on his behalf.

"First and foremost, Wrexham, we love you. Thank you for letting Rob and the other guy tell your story. Cymru am byth [Wales forever], b******,” he said.

“I’d also like to thank The Academy for this honour and for not asking us to attend the televised awards show with the real celebrities.”

Unlike the Eagles, Wrexham are flying high after recently beating Shrewsbury Town to advance to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Red Dragons, who were promoted to League Two from the National League last season, now face Blackburn in the next round.

Wrexham are also second in League Two, just two points behind league leaders Stockport.
