Wrexham midfielder Andy Cannon was seen going off the pitch in a stretcher with oxygen during their win over Mansfield Town.

The League One clash saw the 28-year-old go off on a stretcher with an awkward ankle injury on Sunday.

Cannon was tackled by Mansfield's Louis Reed in the 36th minute before then twisting his ankle.

He appeared to be in immense discomfort and stayed down on the grass for some time.

The Wrexham medics rushed over to his side and then formed a protective huddle around him.

Cannon was treated for several minutes and received some oxygen throughout. He was eventually stretchered off at Field Mill.

Former Mansfield boss Paul Cox admitted that it 'looked a bad one'.

"It looks like he got his studs caught in the ground and all his weight went the other way," Cox said as quoted by The Sun.

"It looked a bad one straight away. You could just tell he was signalling to the bench straight away."

Cannon's injury added ten minutes of stoppage time to the first half and his departure from the pitch was met with applause from both sets of fans.

Matty James came on to replace Cannon, though fans will be hoping he can make a swift recovery given his regular spot in the starting XI.

Cannon has started 16 of the side's 27 league matches, scoring twice despite missing games through suspension and injury.

Wrexham went on to claim the three points through Max Cleworth's 58th minute winner after Calum McDonald had equalised for the home side after inadvertently putting Wrexham in front with an own goal.

The defeat for Mansfield leaves them in 15th in League One, whilst Phil Parkinson's Wrexham sit in third, challenging for promotion.

Wrexham's victory made it three successive wins on the road for the first time since August 2003.
