WWE has seen a ton of interesting cameos throughout the history of the company. From Snoop Dogg to William Shatner, the company has opened their doors to a lot of different people that some may not expect to be seen in the ring. It turns out the Billy Mays was also almost on that list of notable guest appearances.
Legendary spokesman Billy Mays was a fixture on infomercials in the 90s and 2000s, pitching a variety of products, including OxiClean, Orange Clean, Orange Glo, and Kaboom. Sadly, Mays passed away in 2009 at 50-years-old, but his memory will live on forever in the form of his classic commercials and memes.
In a Twitter post, Mays’ son, Billy Mays III, revealed that his father almost appeared on WWE TV. When a fan mentioned they wished Mays could have been a guest host for RAW, his son wrote to confirm that this was almost a real possibility for his father.
“You have no idea how close something like this was to happening! Sometime during the attitude era, OxiClean was thinking about sponsoring the WWF and the idea I heard thrown around was that my dad would appear on Raw or a PPV to “clean blood off the ring mat.”
Billy Mays III followed this up by saying: “Do you understand how fucking pumped my middle-school self was about this possibility???” We can only imagine how excited Billy Mays’ son would have been to see him in the ring, because it would have been great for all fans.
WWE recently welcomed Jelly Roll onto the SummerSlam stage, where he performed songs and also took part in a physical segment with Austin Theory and Grayson Waller. This will not be the last celebrity appearance, and it’s anyone’s guess how many others the company talked about, but they were never able to follow through.
