The September 16 episode of WWE RAW took place at Portland, Oregon’s Moda Center and the show built towards Bad Blood in a big way. With that said, it appears WWE changed a longstanding backstage rule for promos during the show.
During Monday Night RAW, CM Punk made his appearance on the show and cut a scathing promo on Drew McIntyre ahead of their Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood in October.
Later on in the night, Sami Zayn also cut a promo on GUNTHER as he continued to challenge The Ring General for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Bad Blood. There were quite a few promos throughout the show this week as well.
According to PWInsider, there was a notable change backstage at Raw this week, as the writers for the promo segments were internally listed on the show’s run-sheets. This is not typically the case, especially for non-physical segments. Alexandra Williams, a Senior Writer with WWE for four years, was credited for CM Punk’s promo.
Brian Parise, a long-standing member of the creative team, was responsible for Jey Uso’s promo, while Christian Scovell, a writer and producer with the company for five years, was listed for Sami Zayn’s promo. When asked about this shift, a source described it as a “natural evolution” in the way WWE manages its creative process.
WWE is going through tons of changes as it is quite apparent they are continuing to do away with many longstanding rules from Vince McMahon’s era. Regardless, we’ll have to see if WWE will continue to make more changes in the coming months.
What’s your opinion on WWE implementing such a change for promos? Do you feel more changes will be implemented soon? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
