As is the case with any entertainment business, there are things that take place in professional wrestling which go far beyond anything that takes place in the ring. These are the things which can involve people’s lives being ruined by people who do horrible things. That is what some people in WWE’s past are being accused of, and it could lead to quite the situation.

Vince and Linda McMahon, long with WWE’s parent company TKO, are being sued by DiCello Levitt of the Murphy, Falcon and Murphy law firm over alleged sexual abuse of ring boys by Mel Phillips and Terry Garvin. According to the lawsuit, the McMahons knew of the abuse but did nothing about it. The lawsuit claims that five unnamed ring boys, who would assist with various errands, were abused by Phillips and Garvin, who were accused of similar actions in 1992. That case was settled out of court. Vince’s lawyer, Jessica Rosenberg, has issued a statement in response to the lawsuit, as per Brandon Thurston on Twitter:

“More than 30 years ago, the columnist Phil Mushnick tried to make headlines with these same false claims. Those allegations were never proven and ultimately became the subject of a defamation lawsuit against Mr. Mushnick.

“The negligence claims against Mr. McMahon that were asserted today rely on these same absurd, defamatory and utterly meritless statements by Mr. Mushnick. We will vigorously defend Mr. McMahon and are confident the court will find that these claims are untrue and unfounded.”

Opinion: This is one of those situations that is going to need to work its way through the legal system, as anyone who has gone through such abuse deserves some form of justice. Maybe in this case that is just a financial settlement, but it is certainly better than nothing. This is something that has been alleged before and if it is true, there is a very good chance that the McMahons and TKO could be in some trouble.
