Cody Rhodes defended the gold at WWE Royal Rumble.
At WWE Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes defended the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Kevin Owens. Owens’ Winged Eagle Title, which he took from Rhodes after their match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, was also on the line.
A turning point in the match came when Owens hit Rhodes with a twisting suplex onto a ladder that left both men down. Officials came out and evaluated Rhodes and Owens.
Sami Zayn ran to ringside and checked on Kevin Owens. He also looked over at Cody Rhodes. The match resumed, as Owens got back to his feet. Rhodes caught Owens with the Crossrhodes. Rhodes took the fight to Owens and busted him open. Owens fought back, but Rhodes sent him through a ladder with an Alabama Slam.
Rhodes then unhooked both titles to win the match. Doctors checked on Owens after the match, and Owens was bleeding profusely.
