Big turnaround at FC Barcelona. While he announced his departure from the club at the end of the season during a press conference last January, Xavi Hernandez finally reversed his decision.

Indeed, this Thursday, during a press conference, club president Joan Laporta announced that the former Barcelona midfielder would remain at the head of Barça. A surprising decision but one which should satisfy the biggest fans of FC Barcelona.

“It is with satisfaction that I announce to you that Xavi remains Barça coach. He always looks in the interest of the Club and it is very good news that he continues,” announced President Laporte at the start of the press conference this Thursday. The 44-year-old coach will therefore honor his contract until June 2025.

Xavi explains the reasons for his choice

Xavi Hernandez will therefore continue his adventure within FC Barcelona. The former Catalan number 6 was present this Thursday at a press conference alongside Joan Laporta. The club legend explained the reasons for his choice.

“Everyone knows my feelings for the club. I have always given everything for this club. The most important thing is to think about the club and the institution. I said that my priority was to do my job, to get results. I received a lot of signs of confidence from management. But also the staff. It’s also important to have the support of my players. We believe in this project, the president has confidence in the stability of the club.

Before continuing: “We must continue to work for the continuation of this project this season. Barça must continue to work hard, consolidate the project and that is why I changed my decision. I will continue to give my best in the club. A few months ago I thought the best decision was to leave but yesterday, in a few minutes, we were clear that the best decision was to continue. I am very grateful that I can continue. »
