Barcelona find themselves in a difficult position as much of their planning for the summer hinges on the Financial Fair Play margin they will have.
With the financial situation being unclear, it is causing some impedance in their pursuit of a new manager to replace Xavi Hernandez, who has announced he will be leaving at the end of the season.
Names like Hansi Flick and Roberto De Zerbi were seen as top candidates, but recent reports suggest that the Blaugrana are cooling their interest in the pair due to a multitude of reasons.
Xavi continuing possible
Amidst this, Toni Juanmarti of SPORT reports that the possibility of Xavi continuing at Barcelona beyond this season is not entirely off the table.
The journalist acknowledges that such a move is not probable at this point, but it is quite possible.
The team’s performance between now and the end of the season will dictate how things go and potentially open the door for Xavi to continue.
Not so long ago, Barça director Deco refused to close the door on that possibility, saying:
“If something changes, I won’t say we can’t consider it. We have nothing against him. It is not a decision taken by the club or the sporting management. At the moment, there is no such possibility. If it happens, we will discuss it.”
Xavi, for his part, has maintained that he does not plan on changing his decision and is standing firm that he will move on once the current season is over.
However, if things go well between now and the end of the season, the possibility of him staying put cannot be ruled out.
