For a number of weeks now, Barcelona youngster Mikayil Faye has been a regular in first-team training sessions under the watchful eye of manager Xavi Hernandez.

The 19-year-old defensive gem is officially a part of the Barça Atletic setup but has been training with the senior team of late and has even been named in the matchday squad on a couple of occasions.

However, an official debut has eluded Faye up until now, with the Senegalese teenager waiting for his breakthrough.

Faye could debut vs Cadiz

Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that Mikayil Faye could finally get his opportunity for Barcelona in Saturday’s game against Cadiz at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.

As per the report, Faye was one among several youngsters called up to train with the senior setup again today at Ciutat Esportiva, alongside regulars Pau Cubarsi, Hector Fort, and Marc Guiu, as well as Marc Casado and Ander Astralaga.

It must be remembered that Joao Cancelo is suspended for tomorrow’s clash while Xavi might look to rest and rotate some of his players keeping in mind the PSG clash next week.

As such, there is a possibility that Faye might get a chance to make his first-team debut for Barcelona.

Xavi says Faye is ready

Earlier today, during his press conference, Barcelona boss Xavi was asked about Faye and whether the Senegalese talent is ready to play for the senior team.

In response, the manager said that the defender was indeed ready and could get some minutes along with Marc Casado.

“Yes, he is ready. Faye, Casado and more players who can participate. But I see him ready to play for us,” Xavi said.

So, a first-team debut for Faye might not be far away and could come as early as tomorrow against Cadiz.
