Xavi refused to compare Lamine Yamal to Lionel Messi after the teenager scored a stunning goal against Mallorca.

The youngster scored a brilliant goal in the 73rd minute to help FC Barcelona secure a 1-0 victory over Mallorca in La Liga on Friday. Yamal produced a moment of magic inside the Mallorca penalty area, escaping onto his left foot and unleashing a Lionel Messi-worthy strike that landed in the far corner.

After the goal, the young prodigy was compared to the Argentine superstar by many, including Mallorca coach Javier Aguirre, but Xavi refuted the claims.

A revelation

During the post-match press conference, the FC Barcelona coach said: “Anyone would lose to Messi. We are talking about the best player in the history of this sport, he should not be compared to others. » He added : ” Today he wasn’t very good in one-on-ones and he wasn’t on his best day, but he got the ball back and scored a great goal. So he once again made the difference with a goal that he invented.”

The 16-year-old winger has been a revelation for the Catalan giants this season. He participated in 37 matches in all competitions, during which he scored six goals and provided seven assists.
