Barcelona’s season has been chaotic from every single perspective. The forwards are not finishing chances, the defence is constantly making mistakes and giving away goals, and the midfield is evidently overburdened with responsibility on both ends.

The game against Granada on Sunday, for example. Barcelona took the lead early on through Lamine Yamal, but were pegged back right before half-time, before the Andalusian outfit took the lead around the hour-mark.

And right when Barcelona found their way through with a Robert Lewandowski goal, Granada took the lead again three minutes later. Eventually, a Lamine Yamal wonder goal earned the blaugranes one point for their effort.

It was another in a list of exhausting, chaotic games that would have taken the wind out of the players, both physically and mentally.

As such, Xavi had an hour-long meeting with Barcelona players yesterday, as per SPORT. He did not discuss technical matters during this.

Rather, it was an ’emotional’ meeting to raise morale. The coach realises that some of the Barcelona players are running low of mental and emotional energy, and wanted to restore the confidence in the team amidst this troubling time.

Also because Barcelona still have one-third of the season left, and will be hoping to do all they can in La Liga and the Champions League to give Xavi the farewell he deserves.

They will face Celta Vigo this weekend, before making the trip to Naples to take on Napoli in the Champions League round of 16 first leg. Xavi and the coaching staff want the team at their level best mentally to push for a win in both games.
