There is no denying that Pedri is one of the most important players in the current Barcelona setup under Xavi and without the Spaniard on the field, the team does not seem the same.
It is something that the manager has highlighted plenty of times in the past, considering that the team’s creativity and attacking movements suffer a great deal when the 2021 Golden Boy is not on the field.
However, one flaw that Xavi has pointed out in Pedri’s game in the past is his lack of numbers when it comes to goals and assists.
Xavi issues challenge to Pedri
And, as such, Gabriel Sans of Mundo Deportivo is reporting that the Barcelona manager Xavi has set a challenge to Pedri to improve his productivity in the final third, both in terms of goals and assists.
The coach has been insisting for some time that he must improve his numbers, in goals and assists, and that to do so he must try shooting.
Xavi, as he does with all the players in the squad, showed Pedri individual videos and gave him talks about how he wants the midfielder to play and act on the pitch. The manager told him that he can play the best football between the lines, but he doesn’t often shoot.
Since arriving in November 2021, Xavi has asked Pedri, whose market value stands at €90 million, to put up double figures, to go beyond ten goals and ten assists, which he has not been able to achieve, although injuries have played spoilsport.
Last season, Pedri finished with seven goals but only one assist. This time out, he has two goals and three assists. With 14 games left in LaLiga and a minimum of two in the Champions League, Xavi wants him to increase his output.
