Despite no trophies to show for this season, it appeared the club and coach Xavi Hernandez were close to agreeing on a plan for him to continue leading the team.

In fact, it was previously reported that President Joan Laporta had certain requirements for the 44-year-old club legend to remain.

But the situation has turned around drastically, as Xavi now has one foot out of the exit door.

The reason for Xavi’s reconsideration

Xavi’s decision to potentially part ways comes after today’s internal meeting held at the club, which involved board members and Joan Laporta.

Now, Gerard Romero has come out to report the reason behind the coach’s discontent, claiming that Xavi is upset because, after club officials urged him to stay, they now want him to replace some of his coaching staff, which he refuses to do.

After considering staying at the club’s request, Xavi felt betrayed by the demands made of him, one of which was to make certain personnel changes in his coaching staff.

Recently reports mentioned that Barcelona board members are concerned about the team’s physical condition and harbor doubts about his coaching staff, which could explain why they have imposed this condition on Xavi.

Barcelona have revived hunt for Xavi’s successor

As the Catalan giants were closing in on an agreement with Xavi, the potential replacements on Barcelona’s wishlist were temporarily discarded.

But in light of the recent updates, Barcelona have once again resumed the search for a new coach.

And reports have recently argued that German coaches Thomas Tuchel and Hansi Flick are the two names being sought.

Tuchel and Flick will both be free agents this summer, which makes their appointment a realistic scenario.

Alternative options are still on the table, including the possibility of exploring in-house candidates like Rafa Marquez.

Time will tell who Barcelona settles for, but it is looking increasingly likely that Xavi’s time on the Barcelona bench will come to an end next month as he is upset with the board’s conditions.
