Thomas Tuchel’s shock appointment as the coach of the England national team means Manchester United have one less option in the market, as they continue their search for a replacement for Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman is facing immense pressure once again following yet another disappointing start to the campaign. With his future hanging in the balance, Man United are actively scouring the market for a potential replacement.
Man United eyeing move for Xavi
In a surprise development, it appears Manchester United’s search for a new coach has led them towards none other than Xavi Hernandez.
According to Daily Mail (h/t Diario AS), Xavi has emerged as a potential coaching candidate at Old Trafford should the club sack ten Hag in the future.
Although Man United maintain that Ten Hag is still the coach, the club remain alert in the market, with Xavi being one of their top choices.
As per the report, a four-person delegation from Man United flew to Barcelona last Thursday. Although it does not specifically claim talks with Xavi, it does imply some form of contact being made with the Spaniard.
In fact, Man United appear to have contacted Xavi on two occasions in recent months, which is clearly indicative of their interest in the Spanish tactician.
Xavi coached Barcelona for more than two and a half years before being sacked in the summer.
Although it was believed that the coach would take a mini-sabbatical, it appears Man United are more than willing to get him back to the touchline.
However, as things stand, Erik ten Hag still remains the coach of Manchester United. If he does end up getting sacked, it appears that Xavi could be among the contenders to take over, just months after being fired by Barcelona.
