Barcelona’s topsy-turvy season is nearing its conclusion, as merely seven games are left to play before the Catalans can fully focus on next season.

One of the major talking points in recent weeks has been the future of Xavi Hernandez, who was poised to depart this summer after he announced his resignation.

But after much persuasion from the Barcelona board and a change of heart, it appears the Barça legend will stay put for one last rodeo.

Reaching an internal consensus

SPORT have published a report shedding light on the situation of Xavi and the club’s internal workings.

An upcoming meeting between Xavi and Joan Laporta is anticipated, where the coach is expected to discuss his continuation.

But sporting matters are being resolved before any planned meeting with Laporta materializes, so there is a mutual consensus before Xavi commits to Barcelona.

As such, Xavi and Barcelona director Deco are in constant negotiations to iron out matters, with all signs indicating that the Spaniard will continue as manager.

While Xavi is finally open to continuing with the Catalan giants, the 44-year-old believes it would be wise to try to balance things out since he is aware that Kylian Mbappe’s impending signing with Real Madrid would pose a threat.

Xavi and Deco are clear that the team can grow through youngsters and that they should be retained. Also, they believe it would be good to sign a pivot and an attacker with overflow and goals.

Moreover, Joao Felix, Joao Cancelo, Sergi Roberto, and Inigo Martinez are among the players whose futures are being evaluated; the club’s hierarchy is divided on these choices.

Laporta and co. working hard to win Xavi’s trust

Laporta is adamant that Xavi is the best coach to carry out the project going forward, and he will do everything in his power to equip him for success.

In fact, Xavi has been in close communication with both Deco and Laporta in recent weeks, implying his desire to erase the uncertainty around his future.

With Laporta indicating his support for the ongoing talks, a final decision can be expected by the end of this week.
