FC Barcelona’s decision to fire Xavi Hernandez has taken a strange new turn.

Xavi will lead FC Barcelona one last time this weekend, in their last La Liga match in Seville. The club’s decision to remove him from the Blaugrana bench sparked controversy, with fans divided over whether Xavi should remain in charge of the club.

The former Spain international initially chose to change position after announcing his departure at the start of 2024. Joan Laporta persuaded Xavi to stay, before the president took the lead in the movement to remove him, following tight negotiations.

Laporta made a “logical” decision

According to Marca, Xavi’s visit to Laporta in hospital confirmed his departure, with the latter having fallen ill earlier this week. The report states that Laporta told Xavi that he was taking the decision as a “logical” one despite the personal affection he had for him.

Xavi’s departure was made official earlier today, with the current coach wanting the situation to be resolved quickly, even though there is only one match left.
