On Sunday night, Xavi Hernandez oversaw his final match as Barcelona manager, leading them to a 2-1 win over Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

The 44-year-old had learnt of his sacking only a couple of days before the match after Joan Laporta & co. decided to move on from the club legend owing to some of the statements he made regarding the club’s financial reality.

While his departure was announced, Barcelona were yet to agree the terms of his exit, given that Xavi and his staff still have a year left on their contract with the club.

Xavi waiving off significant sum

Now, Mundo Deportivo has come forward with an update on the same, stating that a meeting has taken place between Xavi’s agent and the club officials to discuss the agreement of his exit.

Indeed, Xavi’s agents, led by Fernando Solanas, are already negotiating the final settlement of the contracts with Barcelona this morning.

Xavi, when he had announced to leave the club back in January before backtracking on his decision, had confirmed at the time that he would not charge the club anything for the remainder of his contract.

Now that the club has axed him, the former midfielder has stood by his words. Indeed, Xavi will forgive a significant sum of money, between €11-12 million.

But the members of his staff, in a much less solvent economic position than his own and with smaller salaries, will receive a settlement that will be closer to what was originally signed.

This will be a less significant amount that will not be a blow to the club’s coffers, so it is expected that the official announcement will be made shortly.

Once that is done, Barcelona will proceed with the confirmation and contract signing of Hansi Flick, who has already arrived in the Catalan capital and is waiting for the formalities to be completed.
